Macraes Clean Energy Precinct

Overview

Macraes Clean Energy Precinct is a proposed Solar and Wind Farm Project located at Macraes Flat. The site is set the provide numerous economic and environmental benefits including a 500 MWp Solar array and 500 MWp of Wind Generation. The site was selected due to the good quality wind and solar resources available with an extensive area covering several zones in the District Plan; Macraes, Rural Scenic, and Rural General.

The following connection routes are considered the most suitable subject to PPA demand

  • North Macraes to Livingstone

  • South Macraes to Otago (new substation), or

  • South Macraes to Three Mile Hill

    The project will generate an annual wind energy of 1,752 GWh and solar energy of 780 kWh

    The site's Land Use Capability ranges from class 3 (arable with moderate limitations) to class 7 (non-arable with moderate to severe limitations)

  • Maōri Partnerships

    The local iwi is Ngāi Tahu, and the site sits under the governance of the Waitaki District Council and the Otago Regional Council
