Simon Currie
Chairman (Co-Founder - Energy Estate)
Simon is recognized as a leader in the transformation of the global energy sector including the convergence of the energy sector with other industries, the role of the hydrogen economy,the digitisation of the energy sector and the growth of large-scale clean energy and industrial hubs integrating load with renewable generation and storage.
Simon established Energy Estate in 2018 with the vision of accelerating decarbonisation efforts globally and delivering enduring benefits
from the energy transition to regional communities and First Nations peoples.
Since Kākāriki was established in 2020 Simon has made significant contributions to the transition of the NZ energy sector – speaking at key industry events such as NZWEA annualconference, Downstream, EEA annual conference, NZ Hydro association conference as well as hosting capacity building events such as Sunny Side Up (the first utility scale solarworkshop in New Zealand) and offshore wind supply chain workshop in New Plymouth. Simon has presented to boards of major NZ utilities, giving them a global perspective on thechallenges and opportunities in the energy transition.
Simon graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a LLB and BA (Politicla Science)
