Ohai East Wind Farm

The Ohai Wind Farm is set to bring a variety of social and economic benefits to the Ohai East region and its neighboring communities, while also contributing to environmental improvements in the area through the promotion of renewable energy for a sustainable future.

This proposed wind farm is expected to produce around 293 MWp of renewable energy annually. To put it into perspective, the energy generated will be sufficient to power approximately 146,000 homes in New Zealand.

The wind farm will span up to 140 hectares, featuring around 65 turbines with 4.5 MW capacity each.

    Total area of 14 Ha on a single forestry block of 1,400 Ha in area.

  • Energy Yield

    The project will generate enough energy equivalent to powering 146,000 NZ homes

  • Environmental Considerations

    Classified as Land-Use-Capability6 - non arable, it is expected that forestry operations on th rest of the site will be able to continue

  • Maōri Partnerships

    With the site locally governed by the Southland District Council and Environment Sutherland (regional council), the local iwi is Ngāi Tahu
