Māori and Landowner Engagement
Norm Hill is affiliated with Waikato Tainui and Ngāti Tumutumu iwi, with marae at Kaitumutumu, Maurea, and Tui Pa. He is a qualified environmentalist with over 26 years of experiencein diverse projects, including environmental management, strategy and research, river and biodiversity restoration, environmental compliance, law enforcement, and corporate-culturalrelationship engagement.
Norm’s technical expertise is complemented by various governance roles for iwi and community organizations. These roles include being a Trustee of the Hauraki Māori Trust Board,chairman of Matawhanui Trust, Director of POU Ltd, and Māngai Māori for Hamilton City Council.
Norm has extensive experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects, including solar farms, wastewater treatment plants, stormwater management systems, residentialdevelopments, and significant road projects across the Waikato.
He is deeply committed to tackling climate change and is dedicated to advancing the decarbonization of New Zealand’s energy system. His approach is firmly rooted in a Māori framework (te ao Māori), which emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving the natural environment for future generations. Byintegrating traditional Māori values and knowledge, he aims to create sustainable energy solutions that honour cultural heritage and promote environmental stewardship.
